The Turkish Football Federation has named former Buyuksehir manager Abdullah Avci as the new coach of the national team on Thursday.

The 48-year-old will take over from Guus Hiddink, whose contract was terminated earlier this week after the country’s failure to qualify for the Euro 2012 finals.

Avci, who led Buyuksehir for the past five years, also managed the Turkey U-17 team, guiding the young talents to fourth place at the world championships in 2004.

The football federation announced his contract would run until 2015.
