Portugal’s pain as austerity bites An audit on Portugal’s progress under the terms of its rescue package has cleared the way for a further payment.
Finance minister Vitor Gaspar confirmed the second quarterly review of the financial assistance programme has been rubber stamped by the Troika – members of the EU Commission, the ECB and the IMF.
Under the terms of the agreement Portugal will receive a further eight billion euros of the 78 billion bail out.
