Ronaldo rules for Real in the Champions League qualifiers

In Group A of the Champions League a first half hat-trick from striker Mario Gomez gave Bayern Munich the perfect start.
It was a narrow 2-1 win in the end though with three teams now vying to progress to the knock out stages after Manchester City’s 3-0 victory keeps them on course.

Group B
Inter Milan had a valuable win over Lille with a goal in each half before the French side struck back. A scoreless draw in the other game between Trabzonspor and CSKA Moscow means nothing is decided as to which two sides will progress into the last 16.

Group C
There were early goals in the matches in Group C with Benfica on the scoresheet in four minutes, but Basel’s equaliser denied them qualification. Manchester United went ahead after just eight minutes. Last years beaten finalists won 2-0 against Otelul Galati and remain favourites to progress as group winners.

Group D
Christiano Ronaldo scored his 100th goal for Real Madrid, it is now 901 goals in European competition for the Spanish side as they maintained their 100 per cent record with their 2-0 victory at Lyon. They are on their way to the last 16 and Ajax’s 4-0 victory against Dinamo Zagreb makes them favourites to join Real.
