Sarkozy to tell Greeks to push through bailout deal

A surprised city of Cannes is being asked to host a series of emergency meetings a whole 24 hours before it was expecting to receive world leaders for the G20 summit.

France and Germany want explanations from the Greek premier over his referendum bombshell and to urge him to implement the Athens bailout plan swiftly.

A resolute President Nicolas Sarkozy said: “ France and Germany have taken the initiative of bringing together, before the start of the G20 summit, all the European institutions as well as the IMF, to examine with the Greek Prime Minister the conditions under which the commitments made can be honoured.”

Activists in nearby Nice may have worked out their various agendas for protests at the G20 summit weeks ago but for the politicians the stakes have suddenly been raised.

Heads of state will now be focused on convincing each other and the markets that the euro zone can resolve this latest crisis.
