Alexis Jenni has won France’s most prestigious literary prize, the 108-year-old Prix Goncourt, for his first novel ‘L’Art francais de la guerre’ or ‘The French Art of War.’

Jenni, who is a 48-year-old high-school biology teacher, in the city of Lyon, received a symbolic cheque of 10 euros, but his book sales will almost certainly be boosted by the award.

The novel is an adventure story, focused on France’s colonial history in Indochina and Algeria.

Past recipients of the Prix Goncourt include Marcel Proust, Simone de Beauvoir and Marguerite Duras.
