Dreamliner begins commercial flights

world news

All Nippon Airlines and planemaker Boeing had something to show off this morning; the first commercial flight of a 787 “Dreamliner”.

The flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong was the first for the plane Boeing has staked its future on. Three years late entering service after repeated production delays, it uses the latest in composite materials to reduce weight.

This says Boeing should save 20 percent of fuel costs, a feature they hope clients will wait for.

But production is taking time to ramp up, with 10 a month only forecast for 2013. Rather than wait China Eastern Airlines last week cancelled an order for 24 Dreamliners.
