The body of Italian rider Marco Simoncelli was flown back to his hometown of Coriano on Tuesday following his tragic death in Sepang.

The 2008 MotoGP champion crashed on the second lap of the Malaysian Grand Prix and was struck by two bikes, including one ridden by his best friend Valentino Rossi.

Following the accident, Simoncelli’s team Gresini Honda has withdrawn its MotoGP and Moto2 teams from the season-ending races at Valencia.

The funeral is due to take place in Coriano on Thursday.
