Berlin also saw a demonstration of around 4,000.
In London where St Paul’s Cathedral has closed due to a protest camp outside its doors, demonstrators have pitched more tents at a second site in the business district.
There was a sharp focus to Saturday’s much larger protest march in Madrid. Tens of thousands rallied against education cuts imposed by the Socialist government to try to balance the country’s books.
Spain has already had its credit rating downgraded by the world’s top three ratings agencies.
