Freed prisoners make emotional return to Gaza

Scenes of jubilation as Palestinian prisoners arrive in Gaza.

They may be thought of as terrorists in Israel but here they are seen as freedom fighters.

But it was also clear many in the vast crowds were just welcoming back a son or brother they’d not expected to see again.

“Some of us were ex-prisoners released nine years ago, we salute these new heroes and say yes, we will defend every prisoner until liberation and the liberation of Jerusalem and all the Palestinian territories.”

“While we are surprised by the very warm welcome from thousands of Palestinians, and despite the great joy of freedom, we hope to release the other prisoners that we left behind.”

There are just under 6,000 Palestinians still detained in Israeli jails. Of the 1000 or so exchanged for Gilad Shalit, Israel has insisted 40 have to be deported to third countries such as Qatar,Turkey or like these, to Syria.
