Struggling Bundesliga side Hamburg presented Thorsten Fink as their new coach on Monday.

The 43-year-old former Bayern Munich midfielder has signed a contract with the club until 2014.

The former European champions have only managed two wins in their opening nine games this term and are currently bottom of the table.

Fink said: “I am convinced about the team otherwise I wouldn’t have changed from a Champions League team to a team that could be relegated. I think I know a bit about football and therefore I have seen the great qualities of the team and their great spirit”

Fink arrives from Basel, with whom he led to back-to-back Swiss titles in the last two years.

He takes over from caretaker manager Frank Arnesen and will make his bow as Hamburger boss at home at the Imtech Arena this Saturday against Wolfsburg.
