world news

| |

Italian police have carried out raids in several cities, following the most violent riots Italy has seen for years.

It is alleged that the disturbances occurred because violent and organised groups were allowed to infiltrate a peaceful protest being held as part of the worldwide “Day of Rage” against excesses the of the financial system.

The Italian interior minister, Roberto Maroni, said he will now give police more powers.

“We need new laws, in order to prevent violence. I’ll propose (on Tuesday morning at the Senate) new legislative measures, in order to help the police and the security forces to prevent violence.”
