Anti-Wall St. activists gear up to block 'expulsion'

A showdown in New York is looming.

Anti-Wall Street activists are threatening to block efforts to clean the park where they have set up a protest camp.

Demonstrators claim the clean-up notice from the park’s owners is a ploy to remove them. And, on the eve of today’s planned operation, they insisted they were keeping the site clean themselves.

“We do not plan to leave tomorrow. We plan to meet them with peaceful protest. We plan to link arms,” said Lauren Dogioia, one of the protesters at Lower Manhattan’s Zuccotti Park.

“This is the sanitation department,” she said, pointing to cleaning equipment. “We are part of the sanitation committee. This is where all of our supplies are located. We have a series of bins which house all the different supplies that we need to keep this place sanitary.”

Protests against economic inequality have spread across Europe and the US. A British symbol of high finance could be the next target with plans for a rally in front of London’s Stock Exchange on Saturday.
