An underwater volcano has erupted some five kilometres off El Hierro, the smallest of the Canary Islands. A 4.3 seismic movement on Saturday caused a fissure, releasing pressure from the sea bed.
The Spanish Civil Guard has advised 50 residents from El Hierro’s La Frontera community to leave their homes for fear of landslides.
