Tusk heading for Polish General Election win

Exit polls in the Polish General Election suggest Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his Civic Platform are heading for victory.
The centrist has led a coalition since 2007, and if he is re-elected it will be the first time since 1989 that an outgoing Polish administration has held onto power. Tusk has already said he and his current coalition partner will have enough seats to govern.
For the former prime minister who lost to Tusk four years ago, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, defeat will be a bitter pill to swallow. A return to office would have given him the power to pursue investigations into the death of his brother and nearly 100 other top Polish officials in last year’s Smolensk plane disaster, investigations he claims Civic Platform have failed to press home effectively.

Turnout was less than 50 percent, slightly down on four years ago, but better than in some previous elections. However the markets are likely to welcome the result as Tusk has sustained steady growth and moderate economic
