The father of England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been released on bail after his arrest over an alleged betting scam.
Wayne Rooney senior denies any wrongdoing in an enquiry focussed on a top-flight football match in Scotland last December.
Eight other men including the soccer star’s uncle Richie and Scottish Premier League player Steve Jennings were also detained then freed.
Despite his father’s arrest, Rooney is set to play in tonight’s crucial Euro 2012 qualifying match in Montenegro. England manager Fabio Capello said the striker was “relaxed and calm.”
England need at least one point to ensure they finish top of their group and qualify automatically for the finals in Poland and Ukraine.
