Swedish poet wins Nobel literature prize

The 2011 Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded to Swedish poet Tomas Transtroemer.

The 80-year-old will receive a cash prize of just over one million euros.

The Nobel Committee made the announcement in Stockholm earlier on Thursday. The jury praised his “condensed, transluscent images”, saying they gave “fresh access to reality”.
