The demands of thousands of protesters in Yemen have escalated. It is not enough for President Saleh to step down, they now want him to be put on trial.
Sunday saw the latest demonstration in the capital Sanaa following the shooting dead of 26 people by security forces two weeks ago.
Protester Jamil al Asbahi said : “The Yemeni people today took to the streets to demand the arrest of the criminal Ali Abdullah Saleh and his gang and that they be turned over to the courts.”
Another protester, Saleh al Sormi added: “ Today’s protest is one in a series of previous protests which are calling for toppling the regime and the trying of Ali Abdullah Saleh for all the bloodshed and crimes he has committed in recent days.”
Protesters want the army to join them in their revolt against Saleh who is still clinging onto power.
With confused reports that 25 soldiers were killed in a mistaken strike by Yemen’s own airforce – there is speculation the military is split.
