Demonstrators march on New York Police HQ

In New York over 1,000 protestors marched to the city’s police headquarters. The demonstration was in response to what was claimed to be heavy handed police action during an earlier march.

The Occupy Wall street movement, as they are called, are protesting against issues including the 2008 bank bailouts, and high unemployment.

“The economy is crashing around all of us, people are starving to death and don’t have jobs. You walk down the streets in Manhattan and there are more homeless people than you could ever imagine,” said one of those on the march and added, “The misconception about all of this is that America thinks that we are okay, and we are not okay.”

Police said the demonstration passed off peacefully without any arrests and disputed claims they over reacted during the earlier protest when there were 80 arrests.

It is believed the size of the march on the police headquarters may have swelled due to a false rumour the band Radiohead was set to appear.
