Strauss-Kahn calls for civil sex suit to be dropped

Lawyers representing Dominique Strauss-Kahn have called on a New York judge to dismiss a civil suit filed by a hotel maid who accused him of sexual assault, claiming the former IMF chief was immune from such a suit under international law.

His legal team believes his position as IMF head granted him diplomatic immunity that extended beyond his resignation until he was free to return to his native France.

Criminal proceedings against the one-time French presidential hopeful have already been thrown out.

Still, Strauss-Kahn faces a civil suit and inquiry into sex assault accusations made by French journalist Tristane Banon from an alleged incident in 2003.
