A state funeral has been held for six soldiers killed by suspected Kurdish militants in south-east Turkey.

A recent spate of attacks has heightened tension between the security forces and PKK rebels.

In Ankara, scene of a deadly car bombing last week claimed by a group seen as linked to the PKK, the Prime Minister was talking tough. Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed more cross-border missions to track the rebels down.

Turkey has already launched air attacks on suspected PKK bases in northern Iraq, and signs are growing that a ground operation there could follow.
