Dozens of people have died and millions have been affected by monsoon floods in eastern and northern India.

The state of Orissa, one of the country’s most deprived, is worst hit, along with the northern states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Many people drowned, while others were killed by snakebites and collapsed buildings.

Rescue efforts have been hampered by the rain, expected to last another two days.
