Yemeni troops ‘open fire’ on protesters

world news

| |

Thousands of Yemeni opposition protesters marched through Sanaa’s Change Square on Monday.

Amateur footage purports to show fellow demonstrators trying to join the march and it appears to show government troops opening fire on them. euronews has been unable to independently verify the video’s content or its authenticity.

The opposition offered no immediate information on whether anyone was killed or how many people were injured.

Protesters first took to the streets in February to call on President Ali Abdullah Saleh to resign. Saleh returned to Yemen on Friday from three months treatment in Saudi Arabia after an attempt on his life.

At least 450 people have lost their lives since protests against his 33-year rule began.
