Typists compile New York memories of 9/11 French President Nicholas Sarkozy has celebrated the 125th anniversary of New York’s Statue of Liberty.
The sculpture, which has become a symbol of freedom, was a gift from France to the US in 1886. Sarkozy was joined by New York mayor Michael Bloomberg for the ceremony on Liberty Island.
The French leader paid tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the thousands of American soldiers who died in World War II who are buried under French soil.
