The tap is turned on – the traditional phrase that kicks off one of Germany’s most favourite events.
Oktoberfest in the city of Munich attracts some six million people, with no shortage of space in kilometres of drinking tents.
This year is the 178th Oktoberfest, and it is proving as popular as ever.
One of the first drinkers said: “The first beer always tastes fantastic and the atmosphere is great. It’s also great to hang out with your best friends.”
This year the price for a litre has broken the €9.00 mark; last year the most expensive was €8.90.
The event is held until October 3.
