The United States produced a solid display to edge out Russia and get their World Cup campaign back on track in New Plymouth on Thursday.

Scrum half Mike Petri scored a first-half try and full back Chris Wyles landed two penalties to hand the Eagles a narrow 13-6 win over Nikolai Nerush’s men.

Meanwhile, winger James O’Connor has been recalled by Australia for Saturday’s clash with Ireland, who’ll be seeking to bounce from their disappointing opening game against the US.
