Champions League: Man Utd earn a point in Lisbon

Ryan Giggs scored a superb goal just before half time to earn Manchester United a point in their Champions League game against Benfica in Lisbon on Wednesday.

In group C’s other game, FC Basel needed a late strike from Swiss international Alexander Frei to down Romanian side Otelul Galati. Final score there 2-1.

In group B, underdogs Trabzonspor produced a stunning display to edge out Italian giants Inter Milan 1-0 at the San Siro thanks to a well taken goal by Czech right-back Ondrej Celustka.

Elsewhere, Seydou Doumbia scored a brace of goals to help CSKA Moscow overturn a 2 goal deficit against Lille and earn his side a valuable point in France.

In group A, Aleksander Kolarov’s late free kick cancelled out Edinson Cavani’s goal as Manchester City drew 1-1 with Napoli.

Meanwhile, Toni Kroos and Rafinha both scored as Bayern Munich cruised to a 2-0 win at Villarreal.

In group D, Angel Di Maria’s second-half strike was enough to hand ten-man Real Madrid three points while Ajax were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Lyon at the Amsterdam Arena.
