The artist many believed to be the father of Pop Art, Briton Richard Hamilton, has died aged 89.

Admired by peers such as Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys, his 1956 collage, “Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing?”, stunned the artworld with its playful irreverence and ushered in a whole new era in modern art.

The phrase Pop Art itself was coined by Hamilton a year later. He worked up until his death.
