In Chile, hooded gangs have disrupted a peaceful march to mark the anniversary of the 1973 military coup by dictator Augusto Pinochet.

Police in Santiago used tear gas and water cannon to tackle the youths, who threw stones at officers and the media.

The violence comes after recent student protests calling for a return to free education.

Over 3,000 people were killed and almost 37 thousand were imprisoned or tortured during the Pinochet dictatorship.
