Scores die in Kenyan pipeline fire

world news

There have been some shocking scenes in Kenya, where more than a hundred people have died after fire swept through a densely populated slum in Nairobi.

The blaze broke out in the Sinai area of the Kenyan capital, after an explosion in a nearby oil pipeline. There is thought to have been a leak in the system.

A spokesman for the Red Cross has told reporters that those who died were trying to siphon petrol spilling from the leak when the fuel ignited.

Firefighters have doused the scene with flame-preventive chemicals and onlookers are being kept behind a security cordon.
