World champion Sebastian Vettel won a crash-hit Italian Grand Prix on Sunday for his eighth victory of the season.
Following a sluggish start from pole the 24-year-old Red Bull driver regained the lead from Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and didn’t look back as he racked up his 31st podium finish in only his 75th race in the sport.
Briton Jenson Button finished second in his McLaren while two-times champion and local hero Alonso took third.
Vettel is now well in sight of retaining his title with six races left – if he wins in Singapore in a fortnight’s time and Alonso fails to reach the podium the German will secure the crown for a second consecutive year.
The constructors title is also now Red Bull’s to lose – the stable have a 126 lead over closest title rivals Mclaren while Ferrari are well off the pace in third.
