Britain’s Chris Froome produced a superb display to clinch stage 17 of the Tour of Spain in Cantabria and move within 13 seconds of red jersey Juan José Cobo.
The Team Sky rider showed great determination throughout a thrilling final stage which saw the lead change hands several times.
With only a few kilometres to go, Cobo broke clear of the pack and only Froome was able to follow his wheel.
Both riders stepped it up a gear but Froome proved too strong for his opponent eventually crossing the line just one second ahead of the Spaniard to claim his first victory in one of the Grand Tour events.
Thursday’s 18th stage is a 187 km trek from Solares to Noja.
