The former Chief of Staff of the Yugoslav Army has been found guilty of war crimes and sentenced to 27 years in prison.
Momcilo Perisic had denied all charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the early 1990s.
Experts on the Balkan conflict are interpreting his conviction as a clarification of Belgrade’s hitherto officially unclear role in the fighting in neighbouring countries, former members of the Yugoslav Federation.
