Ukraine opposition snubs opening of parliament

Ukraine’s opposition has used the opening of parliament as an opportunity to protest over the ongoing incarceration of former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko. She is being held on corruption charges which she denies and the trial is widely viewed as an attempt to silence her.

The opposition covered their seats with a banner of her and another ex-minister also behind bars, and left the chamber as President Viktor Yanukovich opened proceedings.
