For the 37th time some of America’s film legends have come to the coast of Normandy for the American Film Festival in Deauville.

Stars gather on the red carpet to pay tribute to the great names of cinema and commend a new generation of young American directors.

This year the ceremony paid tribute to the actress Shirley MacLaine, who’s career spans almost sixty years. The 77-year-old actress spent time on Deauville’s famous promenade before her

accolade.

The great guest of honour was Francis Ford Coppola – one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed director. His fame catapulted after the release of the Godfather in 1972. His second film Apocolypse Now was critically acclaimed for its depiction of the Vietnam War.
