‘Warriors of the Rainbow’ directed by Te-Sheng Wei, is also in competition at the festival. It tells the little-known story of a brutal Japanese crackdown on rebellious indigenous mountain tribes.

The director said: “With violence you can count the heads but that’s not really the point. I wanted to show what actually happened. In the beginning, this tribe was about 2,000 or 3,000 people and at the end, there were only about 200 left, all of them women and children, there were no men left.”
