Hamas welcomes Turkish move against Israel

The Hamas movement in Gaza is applauding Ankara’s move to downgrade relations with Israel.

Spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said: “Hamas, the Islamic resistance, welcomes the decision by the Turkish government to expel the Israeli ambassador, and considers this a natural reply to the attack against the volunteers on the flotilla, who were protesting against the blockade of Gaza.”

Ankara has previously said it would back any move by the Palestinians to obtain recognition of statehood at the United Nations.

Turkey’s ambassador to Israel had already been withdrawn last year, immediately after the raid on the flotilla.

But despite the further downgrading of relations, the flag is still flying on the Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv.
