Christie Coombs lost her husband Jeff in the 9/11 attacks. He was a passenger on the plane that hit the World Trade Centre’s North Tower. She told euronews’ Valerie Zabriskie how her family responded to their tragedy by trying to do something positive. She set up the Jeff Coombs Memorial Foundation to help bereaved families and later, along with other 9/11 widows, the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund to assist those whose family members were killed or injured in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For Coombs, the lessons of 9/11 still need to be learnt and that people, in particular the young, need to be taught about 9/11 appropriately. This is not always the case, she adds, as politicians have sometimes used the attacks for their own political gain.
