Kosovar Albanian admits US murders in Germany

The trial has begun in Germany of a Kosovar Albanian man accused of shooting two US servicemen dead at Frankfurt airport in March.

The packed courtroom heard that 21-year-old Arid Uka is charged with two counts of murder and three of attempted murder.

He has admitted firing on the group of airmen at point blank range with a pistol.

Uka worked at the airport’s mail depot. He confronted the airmen as they boarded a US army bus taking them to a flight for Afghanistan.

Prosecutors say he was motivated by radical Islamist beliefs and wanted revenge for the US operation in the country.

The trial is expected to last around 10 days and a verdict is due early next year.
