General David Petraeus has made a final salute as he leaves the US army for a new job as director of the CIA.
Patraeus lead American forces in Iraq and then Afghanistan. In Iraq in particular he was credited with turning round a near-catastrophic situation using surge tactics.
He starts his new job next week.
