Famed German satirist Loriot has died at the age of 87 in southern Germany.
The comedian – real name Bernhard Victor Christoph-Carl von Buelow – also wrote poetry, made films and appeared on and wrote for television. He succumbed to age related weakness according to his publishers.
He was a master of many genres including comic books he also worked as a cartoonist for Stern and Quick magazines.
His absurdist sketches featured events such as awarding certificates for yodelling and reflecting on the temperature of bathing water.
His stage name came from the song bird featured on his aristocratic family crest, whose French name is Loriot.
