Rebels flush out snipers in the battle for Tripoli

Nato planes have continued their Libyan campaign even intercepting one of three scud missiles launched by pro Gaddafi forces from the city of Sirte.

The Pentagon has also revealed that US security personnel have been embedded with opposition forces advising the amateur army.

Although rebels claim to control of much of Tripoli, remnant forces still loyal to Gaddafi are staging a stand particularly at the leader’s heavily fortified compound.

Despite sweeping into Tripoli two days ago in tandem with an uprising in the city there have been several clashes.

With fighting still continuing Tripoli’s only working hospital is said to be struggling to cope with the wounded.

Civilians who mobbed the streets to cheer the end of the dictatorship have stayed indoors as rebels flushed out snipers and pockets of resistance.

Both NATO and the US have cautioned rebels against exacting revenge for Gaddafi’s brutal rule.
