Spain’s Pablo Lastras produced a stunning performance to claim stage three of the Tour of Spain in Totana on Monday.
The 35 year old, whose last stage win in one of the three major tours was in the 2003 Tour de France, was among a small pack of riders that broke away from the peloton from early on in the race.
Lastras was then made to battle hard but held his nerve to edge out his rivals and take the red jersey off Italy’s Daniele Bennati.
France’s Sylvain Chavanel came second while Spain’s Markel Irizar had to settle for third place
Tuesday’s fourth stage is a 170 kilometre trek from Baza to Sierra Nevada.
