Dramatic amateur footage captured the moment a deadly storm swept through an outdoor pop festival in Belgium, causing death and destruction.
Five people were killed as tents and staging crashed to the ground near Hasselt, east of Brussels. The youngest victim is said to be aged just 15.
Of the dozens injured, three were in a critical condition in hospital. Organisers have now cancelled the event, one of the biggest of its kind in Europe.
“It is quite understandable, people were killed, many were hurt,” said a young festival-goer. “You can’t continue with the festival.”
Belgium’s King Albert II cut short his summer holiday in Italy on learning of the tragedy. Young festival-goers waited to be picked up by parents. The reunions were emotional and the relief clear to see.
