World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki continued to struggle with a dramatic dip in form this month.
For the second straight tournament the top seeded Dane was sent crashing out of the early rounds leaving her US Open preparations in tatters.
A week after the 21-year-old was eliminated from the second round in Toronto she once again paid the price for an error-riddled performance when she was dumped out of this week’s Cincinnati Open – losing in her first match against unheralded American Christine McHale.
Wozniacki has won five titles this year, the last of which came in June in Copenhagen.
But with the US Open fast approaching her recent form suggests a maiden grand slam title is still out of reach.
Her preparations continue next week, however, when she will defend her New Haven title.
