The start of the Spanish season looks set to be delayed after talks between the Spanish football league and the Spanish players’ union (AFE) failed to avert the strike action called for this weekend.
The union is demanding greater protection for players’ wages at clubs who have gone into financial administration and according to reports, both sides will meet again on Friday morning.
Despite the strike, world champions Spain will still meet Liechtenstein in their Euro 2012 qualifier in September.
La Furia Roja is currently top of Group I, six points ahead of the Czech Republic after five games.
