A cholera epidemic is now killing children in Somalia.
The intestinal infection is the latest scourge to hit the country. Tens of thousands of people have already died in the Horn of Africa amid severe drought and famine.
Banadir Hospital in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu is struggling to cope with all those showing the symptoms.
“We admit a huge number every day, approximately 50 to 80 patients per day,” said Dr Abdalla Abukar.
Cholera outbreaks have now been confirmed in several regions. And, as vast numbers of people flee in search of food, the risk increases of the disease spreading further.
