Barca score a draw in Real's heartland

Arch-rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona took to the turf at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of the Supercup, the season’s curtain raiser in Spain.

The home side took the lead on 13 minutes after German international Mesut Ozil made the most of some good work by Karim Benzema.

Real looked the more likely to score until David Villa pulled a rabbit out of the hat on 35 minutes to level the match.

As half-time approached Messi did the damage with a typical run into the danger area before slipping the ball under Casillas to give Barca the lead at the pause.

Real equalised in the second period as former Liverpool man, Xavi Alonso, fired a shot into the corner from outside the box.

Barca happy with the draw. Real happy with the performance.

Part two at the Nou Camp on Wednesday.
