The Taliban says it was behind the assault and that US officials were among the dead. Dozens of people were injured.
Authorities say 16 government employees and six police officers were killed at the complex in Parwan, just an hour’s drive northwest of the capital, Kabul.
Separately on Sunday, a French soldier was shot dead in the province of Kapisa, just three days after another French serviceman was killed there. It brings to 74 the number of French soldiers killed in Afghanistan since 2001, seven of whom died over the course of one week in July.
