After last season’s tetchy encounters Real Madrid and Barcelona prepare to meet in Spain’s season opener, the two-legged Supercup.
The first match takes place at the Santiago Bernabeau in Madrid. Despite the games friendly status no Clásico is ever without a certain friction.
Real coach Jose Mourinho delivered another of his special quotes:
“With Inter we lost the Supercup, and then we won the Champions League, the league and the Italian cup, but the year before we won the Supercup, and that season we only won the Supercup and the league, we didn’t win the Champions League or the cup. For me the Supercup is the most important tournament of the summer, and the least important of the season”
Barcelona are still shaking off the pre-season cobwebs with a number of their squad feeling the after effects of the Copa América.
Barca boss Pep Guardiola is expecting yet another interesting match:
“Real Madrid can play in every possible way. It is very difficult to guess how are they going to play. Of the five matches we played last season, they played two in one way and three in another.”
Despite this evening’s outcome both sides will meet again in the New Camp next week.
