London police round-up suspected looters

world news

| |

There is no-let up in the hunt for suspected looters and rioters more than a week after the worst outbreak of violence in English cities for decades.

Over 1,400 arrests have been made in London alone and courts were open over the weekend.

There is no easing either in a row over how the disturbances were dealt with. Prime Minister David Cameron angered police by criticising their initial response. He has vowed “zero tolerance” against street violence.

A multi-faith peace rally was held in the central city of Birmingham. Three men died there after being hit by a car while trying to protect shops during the unrest. Two men and a teenage boy have been charged over their deaths.
